Why is this the first time I am hearing about this?
EAB has been in national headlines for several years. It has been the subject of financing and budget discussions in the state and at the local levels for several years. Prior to its discovery in Riverside, several Landmark articles have been written regarding the insect. The first insect was found in a purple trap provided by the Illinois Department of Agriculture in 2010, at which time local newspapers gave it much attention (something they continue to do). Village staff has published notices and updates in editions of the Riverside Review as well as the Village website. The forester first informed the Village administration regarding the insect in a memo submitted in 2006. Prior to its discovery in Riverside, informational door hangers, signage boards, and videos on Riverside TV have been distributed to inform the public.
