Riverside Police Department received an $80,000 grant from Cook County Sheriff's Department as part of an overall criminal justice grant for a Livescan Fingerprint Booking unit.

Riverside Police Department received an $80,000 grant from Cook County Sheriff's Department as part of an overall criminal justice grant for a Livescan Fingerprint Booking unit. Riverside first received the Livescan Booking Station in 1998 as part of an original grant. The current grant is for an updated version replacing the ink system and is far more accurate and faster in processing and identifying suspects. This booking station can be taken to and used at another facility should Riverside merge its booking and housing of prisoners outside of Riverside in the future

The $80,000 Livescan System is formally known as the Criminal Apprehension Booking System (CABS). Riverside originally was awarded this grant two years ago, but it was just rolled out and installed this week. There are over 105 municipal police agencies that received the same grant as part of an overall criminal justice fingerprint Livescan update in Cook County.

Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel stated, "Livescan is directly connected to the Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification in Joliet, the Chicago Police Department and FBI databases. This is the most extensive computerized fingerprint identification network in the country and it certainly helps Riverside Police positively identify individuals in custody."
