Riverside Police Department is proud to announce the following promotions: Lieutenant William Gutschick will be promoted to Deputy Chief of Police, Detective Sergeant Frank Lara will be promoted to Lieutenant and Officer John Cairo will be promoted to Patrol Sergeant effective June 15, 2017.
Deputy Chief Gutschick will be responsible for all day-to-day administrative functions of the department not handled by the Chief of Police. Additionally, he will assist in preparing the police budget, develop annual training plans and work closely with the Chief of Police to expand and increase police services.
Lieutenant Frank Lara will be assigned as an Operations Lieutenant. As such, Lieutenant Lara will be responsible for the performance of officers assigned to patrol, coordinate patrol efforts, and investigative operations.
Sergeant John Cairo will oversee all police operations for the patrol shift he is assigned.
Officer Christopher Kudla also was sworn in as a patrol officer.
Sgt. Leo Kotor has been assigned to investigations as the Supervisor.
Police Chief Tom Weitzel commented, “Deputy Chief Gutschick, Lieutenant Lara and Sergeant Cairo have continuously demonstrated their commitment to serving the Riverside community through their positive attitude, attendance, work ethic, and professionalism. The dedication of these officers goes beyond normal expectations and they have earned these ranks.”
These promotions were necessitated due to the retirement of Deputy Chief David Krull. Deputy Chief Krull retired on May 10th after 20 years of service to the Village of Riverside. Deputy Chief Krull also served with police departments in Lisle and Burr Ridge before joining Riverside in March of 1997.
