The United States Secretary of Interior National Park System Advisory Board (NPSAB) met on August 15-16, 2023 to consider sixteen new nominations for National Historic Landmark (NHL) designation, six updated nominations, and three withdrawals of designation. The Village of Riverside was being considered for an updated nomination to expand the Village's landmark designation boundaries. The NPSAB recommended that the Secretary of the Interior proceed with all of these proposed NHL actions.

On December 13, 2023, the Secretary of the Interior announced designation of these sixteen new NHLs and approval of the six nomination updates and three withdrawals of designation. Riverside's designation update included increasing the Village's National Historic Landmark designation boundaries to incorporate the area West of First Avenue bounded on the north by Ridgewood Road and the west by Golf Road.
