[ARCHIVED] Household Hazards, Recycling and Shredding Event

The Village of Riverside and Flood Brothers are partnering to help residents dispose of household hazards on Saturday, May 6, 2023. The Household Hazards, Recycling and Shredding event will be held at the Riverside Public Works Facility, 3860 Columbus Boulevard, from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Proof of residency is required. There is a limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per household and 10 fluorescent bulbs per household. Business waste is not accepted. Please do not mix waste streams.

The following items will be accepted:

Acids, adhesives, aerosol products, antifreeze, auto fluids, ballasts (PCB), batteries (sump, power tool & household sizes - NO automotive/lead-acid batteries), blacktop sealer (oil-based), cleaning products, cooking oil, corrosives, drain cleaners, fluorescent bulbs (limit 10), gasoline and oil/gas mixtures, HID lightbulbs (headlight bulbs), lawn chemicals, mercury-containing devices (thermostats, thermometers), motor oil, oil-based paints, stains and varnishes (no latex), paint thinners, pesticides, poisons, herbicides, insecticides, pool chemicals.

The following items will not be accepted:

Latex paint (not hazardous and can safely be dried and discarded as trash), acetylene cylinders, agricultural wastes (anything use in a commercial application to grow something that will be sold), ammunition, explosives, or fireworks, biological and medical wastes (biohazards), business and commercial sector wastes, farm machinery oil, fire extinguishers, foam cylinders (Part A/Part B), institutional wastes, lead-acid (auto) batteries, MAPP gases, oxygen tanks, pharmaceuticals (controlled substances), propane tanks, radioactive material, smoke detectors, syringes/needles.

The following electronic devices can be recycled at the event:

Cable Receivers, Computers (Laptop, Notebook, Netbook, Tablet), Digital Converter Boxes, Digital Video Disc Players, Digital Video Disc Recorders, Electronic Keyboards, Electronic Mice, Facsimile Machines, Monitors, Portable Digital Music Players, Printers, Satellite Receivers, Scanners, Small Scale Servers, Televisions, Video Game Consoles, Videocassette Recorders.

Shredding on-site is available:

Residents can also bring up to six (6) file-sized boxes or paper bags of documents for shredding on-site. Plastic spines/covers and metal clips/binders must be removed from all documents. Do not bring documents in plastic bags. Do not include photos, slides, negatives, books, store receipts, magazines, greeting cards, newspapers, or any non-paper item.

Clothing and textile recycling:

A textile recycling drop-off box is available year-round at the Public Works location. 

Clean clothes, shoes, and household textiles in reusable condition including tablecloths, towels, bedding, blankets, bedspreads may be dropped off. Textiles must be clean and dry and contained in plastic bags. A sturdy bag protects textiles from dirt and simplifies handling.
