Arson Investigation/Arrest
On March 19, 2022 at approximately 3:40 AM the Riverside Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to the area of 170 W Burlington for the report of a possible fire in the area. Upon arrival of Fire Units, it was determined that the residence and detached garage at 170 W Burlington were both on fire. Responding firefighters could smell a strong odor of an accelerant in the area of the where the fires had started. Firefighters were unable to make entry into the residence due to the intensity of the fire. Shortly after the arrival of firefighters, the first floor of the residence collapsed into the basement. Firefighters from several neighboring jurisdictions assisted with putting out the fire.
This fire was immediately determined to be suspicious and Fire/Arson Investigators from Riverside Fire Department began the investigation process. Additional Fire Investigators were called in to assist from neighboring jurisdictions as well as Riverside Police Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshal Office.
On October 6, 2022 the owner of the residence, Anthony Barker was arrested and charged with two counts of Arson. Mr. Barker appeared at a bond hearing on October 7th at the Cook County 4th District Court House and was issued a $150,000 bond.
