Ecological restoration technicians will treat Swan Pond and Riverside Road for Reed Canary Grass and other invasive plants as required on Wednesday, October 5. Reed Canary Grass is an aggressive invasive plant that needs to be controlled to favor native plants in these areas.
The Village requests that residents not use these areas for 12 hours following treatment. Please note that flagging was installed to inform the public of the application. Once flagging is removed, the public may then use these areas.
The chemicals used dry within 10 minutes and will not travel off site. The chemical is inside the plant and being translocated to the roots of the target to kill the invasive plant. The Village of Riverside understands and respects public concern about the use of herbicide applications. We do not take the use of these chemicals lightly; however, they are necessary in controlling invasive, non-native species in favor of our native vegetation. When applied judiciously, these chemicals can help to support ecological restoration initiatives in a responsible and safe manner.
