Calling all picnic hampers – both antique and backpack– Riversiders are cordially invited to the fifth annual Picnic by the Pond. Come celebrate the year of Frederick Law Olmsted’s 200th birthday!
On Sunday, September 18 from 4 pm to 6 pm, the community is invited to bring a picnic to the Swan Pond Bluffs. Prime picnicking areas start at the sledding hill and extend to the library.
Picnicking and a children’s nature craft station take place throughout the event. In addition, special activities include:
- At 4:00 pm, Flautist Toria Burrell-Hrencecin will perform at the top of the sledding hill.
- At 4:30 pm, a tour of historic Guthrie Park, led by our Arboretum docents, will depart from the top of the sledding hill.
- At 5:00, Riverside Suzuki Strings program, under the direction of Kristine Boike. will perform at the top of the sledding hill.
- At 5:30 pm, a second tour of historic Guthrie Park, led by our Arboretum docents, will depart from the top of the sledding hill.
Let’s honor picnicking from the past by leaving no trace of our picnic. Waste-free picnicking is encouraged. Please take home whatever you bring. There will not be trash and recycling added for this event. Residents are encouraged to bring reusable items and take any trash home with them.
In the event of rain cancellation, notice will be provided via e-flash and Facebook. The rain date is scheduled for Sunday, September 25.
Please no alcohol at this event.
