On August 29th 2022 at approximately 6:16 PM, Riverside Police Department was advised by the Stickney Police Department that they were following a stolen vehicle Northbound on the 3400 block of Harlem Avenue. Stickney Police requested assistance from the Riverside Police as well as neighboring jurisdictions to perform a traffic stop on this vehicle. Police units attempted to stop this vehicle at Harlem Avenue and Longcommon Road. The driver of the stolen vehicle then drove around police vehicles, through a parking lot and then westbound on Berkeley Road. The vehicle then traveled Westbound on Longcommon Road at an excessive rate of speed. Due to the safety concerns of the public, police units terminated and allowed the vehicle to drive away.
The offending vehicle was then observed coasting through Big Ball Park at Longcommon and Delaplaine after it had left the roadway. An officer ran after the driverless vehicle and brought it to a stop. The driver of the vehicle ran through yards and was apprehended by officers while attempting to hide in a backyard on the 200 block of Shenstone Road. The passenger of the vehicle surrendered to officers.
Both the driver and passenger as well as the vehicle were turned over to the Stickney Police Department. No one involved in this incident was injured.
