On Monday, May 1, 2017, Riverside Bike Patrol Officer Joseph Mahanna conducted a bike safety program and rodeo in the parking lot at Central School.
This program was administered by Riverside Police Department and offered to Tiger Den Pack #24 first graders.
The program began at 5:00 p.m. and lasted about 90 minutes with 18 Tiger Scouts and several Daisy Scouts participating.
Officer Mahanna instructed the kids in safety gear for bike riding and demonstrated safety tips to use along with proper hand signals. Officer Mahanna reviewed bicycle riding safety laws and told children about jobs where bicycles are used. He then conducted safety checks on bicycles in regard to tire pressure, seats, handlebars and pedals.
Officer Mahanna distributed bicycle safety helmets to children that did not have one. The helmets were donated by the Riverside Junior Woman's Charity to Riverside Police Department for distribution during their bike safety program.
Riverside Police officers will conduct bike safety programs and rodeos throughout the year.
