Officer John Cairo receives Cook County Merit Award

Officer John Cairo was honored with the “Award of Merit” for his exceptional attitude, attendance, work ethic and professionalism towards serving the residents of Riverside.
Detective Sergeant Frank Lara, Sergeant Leo Kotor, Officer Fabian Navarro, Detective Jim Lazansky and Officer Isaac Hamilton were honored with the Cook County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Unit Citation for their team work in assisting the Lyons Police Department with the apprehension of two armed home invasion offenders in February of 2016.
Riverside Chief Thomas Weitzel commented, “Officer Cairo has continuously demonstrated his commitment to serving the residents of Riverside with compassion and professionalism and he is a very deserving recipient of this prestigious award. Detective Sergeant Lara, Sergeant Kotor, Officer Navarro, Detective Lazansky and Officer Hamilton assisted the Lyons Police Department without hesitation with armed home invasion suspects that were a clear and present danger to the community on February 22, 2016. The team work between police agencies was outstanding!”
The award presentation was held at Moraine Valley Community College on Tuesday, November 29th, 2016 and was attended by Chief Thomas Weitzel and Village President Benjamin Sells.
