The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) has joined the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) to help Illinoisans struggling with the cost of utility bills during the COVID-19 pandemic. Under Governor Pritzker’s leadership, the State of Illinois has implemented “Help Illinois Families,” a major expansion of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Help Illinois Families has been combined with additional household relief funding to create a $275 million fund for eligible low-income families and those most impacted by COVID-19.
With over $100M in funding still available, the State of Illinois and consumer advocates at CUB are urging eligible residents for the program to take advantage of this opportunity and apply for assistance today.
