[ARCHIVED] BNSF Track Work in Riverside

Railroad Crossing Lights

BNSF has notified the village that they intend to replace railroad ties from Chicago to Aurora over the course of 4 nights: from September 17 – September 20, 2020. The plan is to change out 11,000 railroad ties using roughly 40 pieces of specialized equipment and more than 175 workers.

During this time, all trains passing the work zones will be required to sound their horns and large lights will be used to illuminate the work zones. This is for the safety of everyone who will be working on the railroad tracks. The equipment needed to complete this project can be loud and crossings in Riverside will be closed temporarily, but only at night. Not all crossings will be closed at the same time, and the Harlem, Longcommon and Hollywood crossings will remain open throughout the project.

Work in Riverside is expected on the following evenings:

Thursday, September 17 – starting at 7:00 p.m. and continuing until 4:00 a.m. Friday morning

  • Delaplaine Road Crossing closed
  • Herbert Road Crossing closed

Friday, September 18 – starting at 7:00 p.m. and continuing until 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning

  • Delaplaine Road Crossing closed
  • Herbert Road Crossing closed
  • Cowley Road Crossing closed

The Village and BNSF thank you for your patience and understanding during this disruptive project.
