Residents of Cook County are now eligible to apply for the Surviving Spouse Tax Abatement. The Cook County Board of Commissioners has passed an ordinance to authorize a property tax abatement for the surviving spouses of fallen police officers, soldiers or rescue workers. The Board of Review will consider applications and supporting evidence and recommend qualifying applicants for final approval.
