[ARCHIVED] Hey Bud!

Virginia bluebells

This week, temperatures are supposed to shift downwards to normal mid-March levels. What about all those early blooms and buds that burst forth in the recent unseasonably warm weather? Horticulturists say that most buds on trees and shrubs will survive the temperature plunge. Fruit trees may suffer, but there’s nothing much that can be done. Natives like this cluster of Virginia bluebells (Mertensia virginica) peeking out in many Riverside gardens should be just fine since native plants are used to Midwest volatile temperature swings. What are you seeing in your garden?
