The Illinois Department of Agriculture has detected Sudden Oak Death on lilac and rhododendron shrubs distributed by retail vendors in Cook County this past spring. In an effort to prevent the spread of this disease to healthy oak trees, we are helping to spread the word and educate the public. Be aware that Sudden Oak Death has not been observed on oak trees at this time. Please take a moment to review the press release from State of Illinois. If you or your landscaper have purchased any of these types of shrubs, please reach out to the Illinois Department of Agriculture immediately. If you have any specific questions, the village forester can be reached at 708-442-3590 or mcollins@riverside.il.us.
