On Thursday, June 20, 2019, at approximately 12:08 am, the Riverside Police Department responded to 90 E. Burlington Street. (E. Burlington a Cowley Road) in reference to a motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle that hit a tree. Upon the arrival of responding officers, they located a car wrapped around a tree in front of 90 E. Burlington and a second car just west of the same location. Riverside Police and Riverside Fire Paramedics attempted to treat a 20 year old male subject, who subsequently died at the hospital. The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force Major Crash Unit Team (MCU), a multijurisdictional team consisting of experienced and trained crash investigators from several west suburban law enforcement agencies, including the Riverside Police Department, was activated. The preliminary results of the investigation indicate that the victim, who was a back seat passenger, was in a car (1998 Lexus 4-door) traveling westbound on the 100 block of E. Burlington when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree in front of 90 E. Burlington Street. This crash remains under investigation by the Riverside Police Department and WESTAF.
There was a second car at the scene when police arrived and investigators are still trying to determine what role that vehicle and its driver/passengers played in this crash, if any. The second car, a 1999 Jaguar, did not have any obvious damage.
The 100 block of E. Burlington was closed to all traffic for six hours while crash team investigators processed the scene for evidence and completed the preliminary crash report.
Deceased: Male, 20 of Chicago. Police are still making notification to the family.
More information will be released once the investigation is complete.
