Spring is here. Typically, this is the time of year when weather improves and thoughts turn to outdoor activities. Many residents undertake home improvement and landscaping projects during the Spring & Summer months. Please remember that all building and construction projects (including alterations and repairs) that cost more than $500 require a permit prior to work beginning. Certain projects such as accessory buildings like sheds or garages, fences, decks and driveways require a building permit regardless of cost. Please remember that construction hours in Riverside are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. There is no contractor work allowed on holidays. Contractors should be cognizant of neighbors and limit noisy activities during early morning and late evening hours.
An especially rainy Spring has made lawn care somewhat of a challenge, but please remember that grass is not permitted to grow taller than 8 inches in height and must be kept free of weeds. Bushes and trees must be trimmed so they do not overhang the Village right-of-way or create a hazard to pedestrians, cars or a neighboring property. Please do your part to help keep Riverside looking beautiful.
A particularly harsh winter may have also accelerated the need for some home repairs/maintenance. Property owners are required to keep their property in good repair, we’d like to ask our residents and property owners to take a good look at their properties and see if there are maintenance issues that need to be addressed before they become a larger problem. Even items like peeling paint should be addressed sooner rather than later as exposed wood or metal will lead to rotting wood or rusted metal which will need to replaced rather than just repainted.
