Riverside Residents:
Updates around pedestrian safety enhancements and the traffic and parking at RBHS
Riverside Police Department has assigned an extra crossing guard to the intersection of Riverside Road and East Avenue, just south of BNSF railroad tracks.
The guard is temporary until the end of the District 96 school year to ensure schoolchildren cross on the east side of the street away from the construction adjacent to the railroad train platform and park area.
There is already one crossing guard at the railroad tracks and all other guards remain at their normal locations. Crossing guard’s times were adjusted for Riverside Brookfield High School. Crossing guards will be in positions at the First Avenue crossing during final exams.
Also be aware of this traffic issue: Riverside Brookfield High School will host an IHSA regional volleyball tournament on May 20-22 and large crowds are expected. It’s believed that the bulk of the crowds will occur 4 p.m.-8 p.m.
RBHS will have extra staff out to handle issues on school and adjacent property. Riverside Police will have special patrols in the area for crowd control, parking, and other traffic issues. Also, Brookfield and Brookfield Zoo Police Departments are aware of this event should assistance be needed.
Expect that traffic and parking will be heavy on these days in the area of Ridgewood Road and adjacent streets around the high school.
Respectfully,
Tom Weitzel
Chief of Police
