Distracted Driving Enforcement Campaign.
Between April 1st and April 30th, the Riverside Police Department participated in Illinois’ Distracted Driving Enforcement campaign, bringing awareness to area residents and issuing 44 citations. Increased enforcement was part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
“Driver distraction is a persistent issue in Riverside, and often has life-altering consequence,” said Sgt. John Cairo. “Issuing a citation is a proven way to get motorists to reduce distracted driving.”
During the month-long campaign, the Riverside Police Department issued:
21 electronic communication device citations
1 seat belt citations
3 uninsured motorists
11 speeding citations
8 other traffic offenses
“Distracted Driving Awareness Month may be over, but the Riverside Police Department will continue stopping drivers for this deadly behavior,” said Sgt. John Cairo.
The Distracted Driving enforcement campaign is supported through federal funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
