[ARCHIVED] Gold Star Memorial Renovations

Guthrie Park Memorial Stone WW1 and WW2 Resized for Trending

The Village of Riverside has begun the renovation of the Gold Star Memorial in Guthrie Park.  The project will include the following:

  • Lifting and temporarily relocating the Veterans Memorial stone monuments and Edward Driver Memorial at the east end of Guthrie Park
  • Installing concrete foundations beneath the monuments and memorial
  • Reinstalling the monuments and memorial on their new foundations
  • Installing electrical outlets at the Memorial
  • Installing floodlights for the flagpole
  • Cleaning and painting the flagpole
  • Restoring the landscape in the vicinity of the Memorial

The Village would like to thank Tom Sisulak for his stewardship of this project and members of American Legion Post 488 for their encouragement and financial support.  The village would also like to thank the private donors whose contributions are helping fund the renovations.  Work is scheduled to be completed in time for Memorial Day on Monday, May 27.
