Bank Robbery Arrest.
Riverside Residents,
I wanted to inform you that today at 4 p.m. we had a bank robbery at First American Bank, 15 Riverside Road. There was a tremendous police presence in the area for almost an hour. We apprehended the offender in the rear yard of 96 East Quincy. He was taken into custody without incident.
The case has been turned over to the FBI. The offender is a 57-year-old male resident of Chicago and charges will be placed against him federally by the FBI.
The situation is secure, and the offender was arrested within 6 minutes of the initial call to the consolidated dispatch center. We had mutual aid assistance from all our neighboring police jurisdictions to set up a perimeter, walk the area with canines and then make the arrest.
The intent of this statement is to let our residents know all the facts about this bank robbery incident that took place with the latest information available.
Respectfully,
Thomas Weitzel
Chief of Police
