Composting Update

Compost bin in the garden

The United States has one of the largest consumer food waste footprints in the world. We can help curb this trend locally by providing a more eco-friendly, and less detrimental way to discard our food waste. As a complement to the Village of Riverside’s Composting Pilot Program, Riverside Foods, 48 E. Burlington, is now selling 13 gallon and 30 gallon compostable bags. Both products are available in the trash bag section of the store, next to the conventional options. Riverside Foods is also participating in the Composting Pilot Program!

For more information on the Composting Pilot Program, please see the attached flyer. Return completed enrollment forms to Cathy Haley at chaley@riverside.il.us. Thank you Flood Brothers for responding to residents’ requests for a composting program in Riverside. At the conclusion of the 2017 composting season, the Village and Flood Brothers will solicit feedback on ways to streamline and improve the program.
