Riverside's 11th Annual "1000 Tree Planting Project" will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017.
Volunteers are invited to the Riverside Township Hall , 27 Riverside Road, for a teaching seminar in the 2nd floor Auditorium at 10:00 a.m. Riverside Forester Mike Collins and Program Organizer Tom Sisulak will demonstrate how to use the provided tree planting tools to plant tree seeds and Ojibwe Indian, Joseph Standing Bear, will speak about the history of American Indians in Riverside.
Volunteers will then break into teams and fan out in the natural areas along the Des Plaines River to plant seeds from around 11:30 am until 3:30 pm.
Once their seeds have been planted, volunteers are invited to return their planting tools to the Riverside Scout Cabin where refreshments will be served.
Parking is available on Riverside Road near the Township Hall and on Fairbank Road near the Scout Cabin. Please dress for the weather! Warm hats, gloves and boots are recommended.
This is a very rewarding, family friendly activity. There is no digging of large holes for planting. Special provided tools make the planting very easy. Volunteers will be planting native Oak, Walnut, Hickory, Basswood and other seeds. Everyone is welcome to participate.
